Tetrahydrocannabinol aka “THC” is the primary psychoactive compound found in cannabis plants that is known for the euphoric high feeling. THC may also be known as “Trans-delta9-THC” or “Delta-9-THC”.

THC is actually the most well-known of the 150 cannabinoids and helped discover the human body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). THC activates the CB1 receptors in the brain and CB2 receptors in the immune system, making it an effective anti-inflammatory that can aide in relieving acute and chronic pain.

For some, using THC for the first time can be uncomfortable. Too many unknowns causing fears and/ or concerns. We recommend starting slow and increasing dosage from there. If you have any questions, we are here to help you.

  • Rapid heart rate
  • Anxiety/ paranoia
  • Dizziness
  • Decreased motor coordination

The psychoactive effects of THC are thought to be due to the activation of CB1 receptors and inhibition of the enzyme fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), which increases the amount of anandamide available in the body.

THC also stimulates cells in the brain to release dopamine. Dopamine is seen as the main hormone associated with pleasure, but this is not entirely accurate. Instead, dopamine plays a role in motivation and reward-seeking behavior, as opposed to pleasure directly. This combination affects memory, happiness, movements, thinking, concentration, coordination, and sensory and time perception.

The journey of THC traveling though the body is quite complex. First, users consume THC in one of it’s many forms and the cannabinoid enters the bloodstream. Then, the body will further metabolizes THC as the bloodstream sends the compound into various tissue cells. The metabolizing process is the way our body transforms and converts chemical forms before ultimately excreting them.

Depending on how you consume THC makes a big differences in terms to how the body will process the THC.

For example, if users consume cannabis orally, THC will enter the intestines, travel through the liver, and then be metabolized through liver cells. This process is slower compared to when users vape. Vaping effects of THC can begin almost instantaneously in the body and brain. Therefore, the mood shift and change in heart rate are signs your body is processing THC.

While your body is processing THC, the compound remains active in your system. Users may feel lingering effects for hours or even days until the metabolic process is completed and THC has exited your body.
